Carriacou gears up for an exciting Carnival Celebration

The highly anticipated Kayak Mas 2024 officially sets sail with a significant commitment of over $250,000 from the Government of Grenada.

The event, which has been gaining momentum over the years, is scheduled to take place from February 08 to 13, 2024, under the theme “Kayak Mas 2024: Showcasing Our Rich Culture – Your Passport to Real Mas and Splendour.”

The launch took place on October 28 at the Tennis Court in Hillsborough, setting the stage for a Carnival celebration like no other.

Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government, Hon Tevin Andrew, emphasised that Kayak Mas 2024 promises to be one of the most extraordinary Carnival celebrations in the history of Grenada, Carriacou, Petite Martinique. He called on Corporate Grenada to join hands and ensure the event’s success, encouraging private sector participation and sponsorship.

Minister Andrew underscored government’s dedication to the cause, stating that government will lead the charge with its contribution of over $250,000, “but our intention is to contribute even more in the next year so that we can grow and develop, this mecca, this culture, this rich tradition Kayak Mas.”

Minister for Sports and Culture, Hon Ron Redhead, reiterated government’s commitment to increasing its contribution if the Carriacou Carnival Committee expresses the need. He stated, “We are always generous, but we have to manage our own ability to give so much. What we want to do different is to encourage the private sector to come on board, market Carriacou as an actual tourism destination, so that its Carnival can benefit visitors, locals alike and foreign nationals coming back home to celebrate the 50th but at the same time, enjoy Kayak mas 2024.”

The events for Kayak Mas 2024 will include a diverse array of activities, including Camboulay (Cannes brulees), and Groovy and Power Soca. Commencing on February 08, the festivities kick off with the Queenshow, dubbed Majestic Thursday, followed by the Groovy and Power Soca Monarch on February 09. February 10 marks the date for the Soca Fete, while February 11 will witness the Calypso competition and the return of Camboulay. On February 12, the Carnival spirit will soar with J’ouvert, Fancy Mas, and Monday Night Mas. Finally, on February 13, the celebration will reach its grand finale with the unique Shakespeare Mas and the Parade of the Bands.
