Team Grenfin has retained the championship title of the PowerAde, Dasani, National Swimming Championship staged by the Grenada Amateur Swimming Association (GASA).
In second position was Sailfish followed by the Solid Base Triathlon team in third. Sauteurs Breakwater Swim Group placed fourth.
The Championship, held February 23to 26, has been hailed a success by the organisers.
The event saw the return to the pool of just over 100 swimmers who competed in five age group categories.
GASA welcomed the first-time appearance of two new swim groups; Solid Base and the Breakwater Swim group from Sauteurs. In their first appearance, Solid Base captured the Male 8 and under age- group champion title by Mateo Thomas, while Rodriquez Jules of the Sauteurs Breakwater Swim group earned a bronze medal in the 50-yard backstroke in the boys 15-17 age group.
Other age group champions are as follow:
- 9-10: Nataly Escobar (female) of Grenfin and Rowan Brow (male) of Sailfish
- 11-12: Zeia Ollivierre (female) of Grenfin and Jacob Collymore (male) of Sailfish
- 13-14: Victoria Buxo (female) of Grenfin and Mallon Patterson (male) of Grenfin
- 15 and Over: Sara Dowden (female) of Grenfin and Zackary Gresham (male) of Grenfin.
The opening ceremony of the championship was attended by Minister for Implementation, Mobilisation and Transformation, Honorable Andy Williams; president of the Grenada Olympic Committee, Bunny Wilson; General Secretary of the Grenada Olympic Committee, Veda Bruno- Victor and title sponsor representative Nekoyan Bain, among others.
GASA will now review the results to determine the swimmers who have qualified for the upcoming CARIFTA Swim Championship carded for Curacao in April. Based on the performances, GASA anticipates a number of first time qualifiers.
The event returned after a three-year break due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
