Grenada wins Windward Islands Super 50 cricket tournament

Grenada is the champion of the Windward Islands Super 50 cricket tournament which concluded in the Spice Isle Monday. The local cricketers played undefeated in the four-nation round-robin competition from which the two top teams qualified for a final play-off to decide the champions.

That final was interrupted by rain at Progress Park, Grenada and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines had to settle for a no-result.  Batting first in a match reduced to 20 overs per side, SVG scored 195 off their 20 overs. Romano Pierre top scored with 47 from 38 balls and West Indies player Sunil Ambris 35 from 13 balls.

Leading wicket takes for Grenada West Indies pacer Shemon Lewis 2 for 30 and Ryan John 2 for 35. 

In reply, Johann Jeremiah produced a masterful display of aggressive batting, hammering 94 off 46 balls and Seandel Regis 28 from 12 balls took Grenada to 170 for 2 wickets from 14.3 overs.

Grenada, captained by Darel Cyrus Grenada totalled the most points in the preliminary round-robin matches with seven (7) points from three games with two (2) victories over Dominica and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and a no result against Saint Lucia – their match was abandoned because of rain and a wet Progress Park.

In the playoff for third place, Saint Lucia defeated Dominica by 8 runs in a competitive fixture. Led by Shadrack Descarte’s 102, Saint Lucia scored 224 all out off 38.5 overs. In reply, Dominica made 216 for 7 wickets off their 40 overs.

Grenada’s Johann Jerimiah recorded the most runs in the just-ended Windward Islands Super 50. From his three innings, Jerimiah scored 219 runs. In the second position Dominican Alick Athanaze 210 and third Vincentian Sunil Ambris 145.

Saint Lucian Shadrack Descarte and Mckenny Clarke each took eight wickets and Grenada Darel Cyrus seven.

Windwards Volcanoes contracted players 2022-2023, along with the staff:

Tevyn Walcott, Jerlani Robinson, Sunil Ambris, Keron Cottoy, Ryan John (Grenada) Justin Greaves, Kenneth Dember, Larry Edward, Alick Athanaze, Darel Cyrus, Johann Jeremiah, Shermon Lewis, Nicklaus Redhead, Preston Mc Sween (Grenada) Kavem Hodge, Preston McSween, Darius Martin.

The head coach is Barbadian Shirley Clarke, Leroy James (assistant coach), Damique Walters (Strength & Conditioning Trainer).
