Jehovah’s Witnesses began broadcasting their annual convention worldwide as of last weekend via their official website. This decision was taken as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
All site-based conventions have been canceled, including the one usually held in August in Grenada.
An immediate benefit of a virtual convention is that it will allow not only local Jehovah Witnesses to view the program from the comfort and safety of their homes, but it also opens the opportunity for all in Grenada to join and virtually enjoy the Bible-based building program.
Two Christian principles guiding the Witnesses’ historic decision are respect for the sanctity of life and love of neighbor. “While we all long to meet our dear brothers and sisters from around the island, including those who live in Carriacou and Petite Martinique, life is far too precious to put at risk,” said Martin Forde, Grenada spokesman for Jehovah’s Witnesses. “By delivering our convention virtually, however, while we may not all be located in the same place physically, we will all be united spiritually as we all watch the same convention program.”
An immediate benefit of such a virtual convention Forde points out, is that it will allow not only local Jehovah Witnesses’ to view the program from the comfort and safety of their homes, but it also now opens up the opportunity for all in Grenada to join the Witnesses and virtually enjoy this Bible-based upbuilding program.
The theme of this year’s convention is “Always Rejoice!” Most will agree that during these times that are filled with much fear and anxiety, this theme, which might sound like an unrealistic proposition, will most definitely arouse curiosity and hope in many to see if such is indeed possible. Indeed, a core message contained in this year’s convention will be that all can achieve joy even during the worst of times.
Sessions are posted incrementally in July and August and are held on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The programs are free and no registration is required.
Friday’s program is based on Philippians 4:4“Always rejoice in the Lord. Again I will say, Rejoice!” Saturday’s program is based on Psalm 105:3“Boast about his holy name. Let the hearts of those seeking Jehovah rejoice.” Sunday’s program is based on Psalm 37:4“Find exquisite delight in Jehovah, and he will grant you the desires of your heart.”
Jehovah’s Witnesses hold an annual global convention, as well as similar regional conventions in more than 240 countries. The regional event in Grenada has been convened at the Grenada Trade Centre for close to 30 years. Peak attendance regularly crosses 1,000.
