Minister makes timely donation to football

Football in Carriacou recently got a boost as the Minister made a timely donation.

Hon Tevin Andrews Minister of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs contributed much needed footballs to some of the young football players.

The young players recently participated in the Inter-primary Football Competition.

Hon Andrews, who presented prizes and delivered brief remarks at the closing ceremony of the competition urged the young footballers to continue to excel in the sport which can lead to a fulfilling career.

The competition was won by Our Lady of The Rosary Catholic Primary School, formerly known as L’Esterre Rosary School.

The young footballers of L’Esterre, playing against Hillsborough Government School in the final, defeated their opponents 2-1.

There also was a playoff between Dover Government School and Harvey Vale Government School. Dover Government took third position in the tournament after beating Harvey Vale Government in an overtime game that was decided on penalty kicks.

Dover Government scored 3 penalties to Harvey Vale’s 1.

The four-week competition, sponsored by the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs & Local Government through the Division of Sports, saw participation from all six primary schools on Carriacou and Petite Martinique, including Petite Martinique Roman Catholic.

Nioquan Roberts of Dover Government School was awarded the prize for the most goals in the competition. He scored 12 goals.

The most outstanding defender was Dejon Joseph of Hillsborough Government School; Djuan John of Dover Government School was awarded the most outstanding goalkeeper prize; and Kemon Joseph of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic School was the most valuable player.
