Sick doctor poses problem to hospital

Nurses at the Princess Alice Hospital faced a dilemma last week as the doctor for the wards was sent on sick-leave.

The Grenadian Voice reached out to the Chief Medical Officer to find out why she was not replaced; but no response was forthcoming. The patients at the lone hospital in Saint Andrew have been in the care of the nurses alone since last week.

While the Cuban doctor is on duty at the Emergency Ward, there was no doctor for the wards.

According to reports, the patients are being looked after by the nurses who can only deliver care to a certain degree. There are patients who have been tested since last week and are in limbo as to their results which must be seen by the doctor.

The Prime Minister the Rt Hon Dr Keith Mitchell in a recent town hall meeting in Mt Moritz, blames the issues with staffing at the hospitals as a result of poor management.

In all his wisdom, he recently added hospital services to the portfolio of Hon Delma Thomas who started off with a clean sweep as she embarked on getting the General Hospital thoroughly cleaned. However, from all appearances, staffing continues to be a problem.
